Initial Steps To Customize Shopify Themes
Step 1: You have 2 options to customize Shopify theme
– Customization via Shopify’s default theme editor

Step 2: Attention!
Make an extra copy from the theme you’re planning to customize, this makes it easy to cancel your changes and start over anytime you want.
Tips: To copy the theme you want to edit go to the Admin Page interface > Online Store > Themes > Find the theme you want to copy – if it’s your live theme, it will be in the Current Themes at or if one of the other themes it will be in your Themes gallery > Click Actions > Duplicate
The theme you just created from the copy will show up in your Themes gallery as Copy Of + Theme name you just copied.
Customize Shopify’s Default Theme
One thing you need to know here is that when you customize your pages with the Shopify theme editor, you are customizing the page templates instead of the individual pages themselves. That means any changes you make to a particular template will apply to all pages that use that template. Oh, the trouble has already begun.
Here you can customize the content, layout, typography and colors of your online store. Each theme offers sections and settings that allow you to change the look and feel of your store without having to touch or even see any code.
In any Themes, they are created by Sections, and each will have a different presentation with a different layout, no two are the same. All Sections in Themes are movable, when you move into Section will display eye icon and kebab menu. You can easily customize to hide or show a Section by clicking on the eye and move the Section or edit a certain Section as you like by moving the kebab menu.
The Header and Footer sections are fixed on the page—they will always appear on the page, and you cannot change their position.
Customize Notification Bar And Title Section

The notification bar is where you can display important information about your business, any promotions being offered, any delays in delivery, or any updated policies.
However, not all themes have a built-in notification bar. Other Shopify themes may require downloading a third-party app to display the notification bar.
For the Sense theme, the notification bar is available immediately, and you can make changes to things like:

Title Section
The title is visible on all store pages, so these changes will apply across the entire store. Here are some tweaks you can make to your title using the Sense theme:
– Color board
– Icon photo
– Logo width
– Logo position
– Display menu items
– Spacing and padding
Edit Individual Sections
Next, scroll down to customize other sections including image banners, rich text, featured gallery, collage, video, and multiple columns.
Each of these sections has its own options for customization. Left click on any section to see a menu of changes you can make.
Note: Don’t forget to enable the Deactivate inspector at the top of the theme editor during your editing sessions. The preview inspector allows you to navigate to sections and blocks directly from the preview window and find the corresponding settings faster and more intuitively.
Add A Section
To add a section, click the blue Add Section button and choose a new section from the list, or search for a specific term in the search bar. Of course, the newly added section doesn’t have to be directly above the footer — it can be moved up or down on your page.
Move Part
To move a section, hover over the kebab menu. When your mouse pointer turns into a white glove, click and drag the icon to rearrange sections on your page.
Delete Section
To delete a section, click on the section you want to delete and select the trash can icon at the bottom.
Customize The Footer Section
Like the header, changes you make to the footer will appear across your entire store. Of course, the customization options will depend on the theme you are using. Here are a few things you can change in your footer using a Sense theme:
– Background color
– Email subscription visibility
– Social network icons
– Country/Region selector
– Language selector
– Show payment method
– Custom spacing and padding
Adjust Shopify Theme Settings
Another thing you can do in the Shopify theme editor is change the theme’s general settings, which govern the look and feel of your store.
To find your theme settings, click the Theme Settings brush icon in the left corner of the screen and a Shopify customization menu will pop up. Of course, the customization options depend on the theme you’re using. However, here are some you can find in most Shopify themes:
– Color: Change your color scheme for elements like background, buttons, text, and accents.
– Typefaces: Choose the typefaces that work best for your store.
– Layout: Adjust the width, space, and grid of the page.
– Buttons: Define how your buttons look by customizing their border and width.
– Social Media: Add links to your social accounts.
– Favicon: Upload your favicon image.
